Freaky Friday in Siargao (a not so normal travel story)

Tuesday, May 23, 2006

I wrote this travel story for Roadtrip, an online travel and motoring section of INQ7.net. Hope you enjoy reading it.

Just a teaser:

SIARGAO–The afternoon was almost perfect. After spending most of the day kayaking and exploring the Sohotan caves, I was convinced that it was by far the best summer getaway that I’ve ever experienced.

Fully Loaded

Tuesday, May 23, 2006

This photo I took when I was in Hingyon, Ifugao. Although this is a typical sight along these parts of the Cordillera, I still find it amusing that most of the riders would prefer the “top load” unmindful of the dangers. Perhaps the drivers are World Rally Champion trained.

just landed

I just loved this photo. Nice framing and the colors were almost perfect. Red, yellow and green. ;-)

I took this photo while we were boarding the vans that will take us to Pansukian Tropical Resort in barangay Malinao, Gen. Luna in Siargao Island. The guy in yellow is Nicolas Rambeau, a former french criminal lawyer who has decided to retire in the Philippines. He now rans this beautiful resort.

Now, don’t you just love sleeping in this bed? That bed is overlooking the ocean, by the way. ;-)

exercise on depth

An experiment in photography, hehehe. I was trying to capture the vastness of the ocean with people in it. I think this photo got it. This was shot while we were preparing to board boats to Sohotan caves.

A sandbar has appeared during the low-tide. We had to walk at least 5 minutes to get to the pagoda that is located around 300 meters away from the seashore.

lovely day

It was a perfect day. And so I thought. Late that afternoon, a strong thunderstorm hits this area, while we were on our way back from a two-hour boat ride from Sohotan caves.

It was a fair day, with Edu Lopez and Dave of Speed magazine bringing in the day’s biggest catch! Bing awaits there coming.
